How to discern cotton consumer cotton consumers?

How do cotton clothes generate static electricity? Yesterday, Ms. Zhao, a skeptical customer, visited the "3·15" consultation booth at Galaxy International Rainbow Shopping Plaza with her newly purchased clothing. She was confused and concerned because, despite the label stating "100% cotton," the women’s knitted top caused noticeable static shocks when worn. Upon on-site inspection by the city's Metrology and Quality Inspection Institute, it was revealed that the garment contained as much as 87% synthetic fibers, far from being pure cotton. This raised serious questions about product labeling and consumer trust. The reporter learned that cotton is widely favored for its softness, breathability, and moisture absorption. Natural fibers like cotton, wool, silk, and hemp are generally considered superior to synthetic materials such as polyester, nylon, spandex, and rayon. However, some manufacturers and retailers take advantage of this demand by mislabeling products to boost profits. According to the Shenzhen Institute of Metrology and Quality Inspection and the Light Industry and Textile Research Department, some items labeled as "100% cotton" actually contain less than 50% real cotton. In some cases, the clothing is made entirely of synthetic fibers. What's alarming is that this deceptive practice isn't limited to small shops—it has also been found in branded stores. Normally, genuine cotton clothing feels soft, comfortable, and slightly elastic, without any slippery texture. A simple test can help identify the fabric: take a small piece of the fabric, burn it with a lighter. Pure cotton will turn into gray ash with no smoke or smell. If it emits black smoke, drips, or has an unusual odor, it likely contains synthetic blends. Some fabrics may not even burn at all, indicating they are not natural fibers. Consumers are advised to be cautious and verify product labels carefully. With growing concerns over misleading marketing, it's more important than ever to stay informed and make smart purchasing decisions.
