As you’ve probably noticed, Liesl and Rae have already shared their summer collections, and today, it’s my turn to join in! With Kids Clothes Week just a week away—July 21st to the 27th—I found myself daydreaming about putting together an entire wardrobe for my daughter, C. It’s such a fun challenge to think through what she might need for the season ahead.
This project turned out to be more enjoyable than I anticipated. C and I sat down together to pick out seven styles from our favorite patterns. Initially, we had a long list—ten or twelve items—but narrowing it down took some thought. In the end, though, we agreed on seven pieces that felt just right. For the fabrics, we decided on mostly floral prints from Liberty of London, paired with a few solid colors to balance things out.
Garden Party Blouse: I couldn’t resist choosing this beautiful blue floral print in Liberty's Clarisse Tana Lawn. Seeing all the stunning versions online made me eager to give it a try. This sleeveless blouse would look great on C and feel cool on those sweltering summer days.
2+2 Pleated Skirt: C adores pleated skirts, and the Fairford Chambray fabric gives this piece versatility. It’ll match beautifully with most of the tops we’ve picked out.
Ice Cream Blouse: This loose-fitting blouse is perfect for the summer. Made with Ella and Libby Tana Lawn and a light blue linen blend yoke, it’s both comfortable and stylish.
Badminton Skort: C fell in love with the scalloped hem of this design. Sewn in Capel Discharge Chambray, it’s going to be absolutely adorable!
Class Picnic Shorts: A good pair of shorts is essential during the summer. These shorts in Esteban Chambray and Wilmslow Berry Tana Lawn trim are super cute and practical.
Pinwheel Slip Dress: For something a bit fancier, we went with a pink Clarisse Tana Lawn dress. Adding a bias trim in the same fabric makes it even more special. It’s a simple yet elegant summer dress.
Birthday Party Dress: C’s birthday is coming up, so naturally, we included a fancy dress in bright purple silk shantung. She was insistent on having one, and honestly, who could argue with that? It’s going to look fantastic!
There you have it—a complete wardrobe for C that includes everything from casual shorts to a special birthday dress. If you’re participating in Kids Clothes Week, how are you planning your projects? Do you enjoy mapping out your sewing with pattern options and fabric swatches? Let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
