Identification of Qingjinyan and Fangnaishi

青金石

The sodalite is similar in color to the lapis lazuli, but it can be distinguished according to the structure. The sodalite is a coarse crystal structure, the lapis lazuli is mostly granular, and the color of sodalite is often plaque. White or dark blue spots are common on the blue background, and white or pale pink veins are also common.

The sodalite is sometimes visible in cleavage and the transparency is higher than that of the lapis lazuli; the density of sodalite (2.15~2.35g/cm3) is significantly lower than that of the lapis lazuli (2.7~2.9g/cm3), which is enough for them. Separated, pyrite inclusions are rarely seen in sodalite.
