Hello, everyone! I hope you're all doing well. Right now, I'm sitting in a cozy café in Barcelona, where we've been enjoying the charm of this city throughout the month of August. It's been a fantastic opportunity for us to explore new spots, soak in the local culture, savor delicious food, and create unforgettable memories. It's been quite some time since we last visited Barcelona—S was just a baby back then. Seeing the city through her eyes now, as she's grown a bit older, has been truly fascinating. Last time around, taking her to the beach was a bit of a challenge because she had a habit of trying to eat the sand (she was only nine months old). In the midst of all these adventures, I've been hard at work finalizing all the fall patterns we'll be launching soon. Plus, we've got two photo shoots lined up this month, so things are still keeping me busy.
But before we dive deeper into fashion, let's talk about something equally important—bras. Yes, bras. I know, I know—it's not exactly the most glamorous topic, but trust me, it's worth discussing.
For years, I dreaded shopping for undergarments. That all changed about two years ago when I finally mustered the courage to visit a local lingerie boutique and get professionally fitted. Let me tell you, it was a game-changer! I didn't go to Victoria's Secret—I went to a boutique with experts who took detailed measurements and worked with me to find bras that suited my unique shape, lifestyle, and preferences. Through this experience, I learned so much about proper bra fit, including how to adjust the straps, where the band should sit, and even how to put it on correctly.
As a result, I now wear a completely different style and size, and I couldn't be happier with how my bras fit and how they enhance my overall appearance. Honestly, this experience transformed my attitude toward bra shopping. I almost look forward to building my collection now. Bras have become both a practical necessity and a way to feel more feminine and confident. I've even invested in a few special, beautiful bras just because they make me feel good.
You've probably heard others emphasize the importance of finding the right bra fit. Why does it matter? A well-fitted bra makes a huge difference in how your clothes hang on your body. Not only does it enhance your silhouette, but it can also make you appear slimmer by creating more space between your breasts and hips, accentuating your waist. If you sew your own clothes, you'll notice that a properly fitted bra ensures your bust is positioned in a way that flatters your outfits, making your clothes look better overall. Your darts in blouses and dresses will be perfectly placed, and everything will look neat and polished.
Here are five additional tips to keep in mind regarding bras:
1. Different bras and brands fit differently. It's essential to find bras that complement your body type, not just those that look cute.
2. You might discover that you wear a different size depending on the brand. Always try on bras before purchasing.
3. Invest in high-quality bras. They're made from better materials and will last longer.
4. Avoid wearing the same bra two days in a row. Rotating bras allows the elastic to recover, extending their lifespan. Starting with three or four bras is ideal for rotation.
5. Hand-wash your bras using gentle soap. I highly recommend Soak or baby shampoo for this purpose.
If you don't have access to a great boutique with knowledgeable staff nearby, you might want to check out a newer online company called True & Co. Launched in 2012, this company has gathered data from over 500,000 women to identify more than 6,000 breast shapes. By answering a few questions in their online quiz (you might want to do this in front of a mirror), they use your information and their database to determine your size. They then suggest bras based on your preferences, allowing you to try them on at home and purchase only what you love. Their prices are surprisingly reasonable.
Americans tend to prioritize practicality when it comes to bras. We're busy women, after all! It's nice to have an all-purpose bra that works with everything from slim-fitting T-shirts to V-necks or semi-sheer blouses. I initially built my collection with four T-shirt bras for a smooth silhouette. Recently, though, I've started adding more stylish options to my wardrobe. Still, I often reach for those T-shirt bras for everyday wear—they're just so convenient.
