On July 10, 2013, the "China Maternal and Child Health Promotion Initiative" co-sponsored by Berson Medical, China Family Culture Research Association and China Women's Magazine was officially launched today in the Great Hall of the People.
Gu Xiulian, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress and director of the China Care for Next Generation Work Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Gu Xiulian said that July 11th is the “World Population Day” and it is very meaningful to hold a launching ceremony for the Chinese Maternal and Child Health Promotion Campaign on such a day. The Chinese government has always attached great importance to the health of women and children, and has continuously improved the survival and health status of women and children, and the overall health of women and children has been improved. Through the formulation and improvement of various laws and regulations, the Chinese government implemented a number of policies and development plans to protect women's and children's health rights from multiple levels and perspectives, thus greatly improving the conditions of medical and child health services for women and children. The major health indicators of women and children in our country have made historic progress and have been at the forefront of developing countries. Infant mortality, maternal mortality and other indicators are at the best level in developing countries.
Gu Xiulian pointed out at the same time that with the economic and social changes, the transformation of institutional mechanisms, and the acceleration of the pace of life, new public health issues, women's and children's health are increasingly facing social problems, and maternal and child health work is facing new challenges. She hoped that the government departments would need to introduce more laws and policies to protect maternal and child health. In particular, we must take into account hot issues concerning the safety of maternal and child products, transportation of infants and young children, accidental injuries, etc. Out measures and take measures; at the same time, she hopes that government agencies, enterprises and institutions will strictly implement the state's protection policy for breast-feeding during pregnancy, and at the same time, create a more humane working environment for women during breast-feeding during pregnancy. In the year of trial operation, activities such as maternal prenatal education concerts, healthy baby charisma contests, pregnant mother yoga classes, and prospective fathers' classes were held. As of May 2013, a total of more than 1300 activities were held in 19 provincial capitals and central cities, with more than 80,000 participants. At the same time, 14 mother and child health hotlines were opened, more than 8,780 consultation telephone calls were answered, and more than 15,000 maternal and child health problems were answered. They were welcomed by the majority of pregnant women and their families.
