The Queensland Government announced the conceptual design of the $150 million new theater. The new performing arts venue will open at QPAC on the corner of Gray Street and Russell Street in 2022 and will be Australia's premier performing arts center.

The theatre is currently known as the New Performing Arts Venue (NPAV), replacing the grassland now known as the "Game House Green." The overall shape of the building draws inspiration from the nearby Brisbane River and is associated with QPAC's original traditional decor, leaving a unique impression.

Designed with a thin, thin-wing glass curtain wall, the glass has a strong exterior design that allows Brisbaneers to see the transparent foyer from the corners of Grey and Russell Street.

The design proposes a "solid" core that includes a theater aligned with the QPAC grid and extends the cantilevered foyer beyond the boundary, enclosing the undulating glass wall.

The conceptual design successfully created a new contemporary image for the venue while respecting the intrinsic value of the Gibson area.

The new theatre will provide Queensland's art organizations with another way to showcase local talent and tell unique stories.
